“ Dublin is a City of Literature where creativity, and especially writing and words in all forms - prose, poetry, playwriting and song writing - are valued and celebrated. ” UNESCO
UNESCO Creative Cities of Literature use creativity and culture to promote the social, economic and cultural development of their cities. Slamovision is a unique, spoken word initiative celebrating the finest in spoken word poetry in the world. Similar to Eurovision, cities compete through poetry performances, showcasing local talent on an international stage. Slamovision increases cultural participation within individual cities, and provides a new and exciting opportunity to showcase local talent on an international stage.
Internationally award-winning poet Cormac Mac Gearailt hosts the evening, which also features a musical performance by bilingual Kerry-based artist Amano. Cormac brought the Slamovision crown to Dublin, winning the competition for Ireland for the first time in 2024 with Dublin’s first entry as Gaeilge. Performances are as Gaeilge with live translations provided in English.
Presented in association with Dublin City Council, Dublin UNESCO City of Literature and Rising Tide.
