We are thrilled to be hosting yet another launch for the inimitable Jan Carson. This new collection of micro-fiction, No Vacancy: Hotel Stories, is inspired by numerous hotel visits over recent years and features illustrations by Rory Jeffers. Filled with Carson’s wit and characteristic surrealism, No Vacancy captures the uncanniness of temporary spaces in which strangers coalesce. Introducing Jan Carson on the night will be Cathy Sweeney, author of Breakdown.
All are welcome to attend and refreshments will be served.

ABOUT
JAN CARSON is a Belfast based writer who has published four novels, three short story collections and two micro-fiction collections. Her novel The Fire Starters won the EU Prize for Literature for Ireland, 2019. The Raptures was shortlisted for the An Post Irish Novel of the Year and Kerry Group Novel of the Year. Jan was the Seamus Heaney Centre Fellow at Queen’s University Belfast in 2025 and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. Her first stage play, an adaptation of the children’s classic, The Velveteen Rabbit was produced by Replay Theatre Company at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast in March 2025. Her latest novel, Few and Far Between was published by Doubleday in April 2026.
CATHY SWEENEY is a writer living in Dublin. Her short fiction has been published in The Stinging Fly, The Dublin Review, Egress, Winter Papers, Banshee, The Tangerine and has been broadcast on BBC Radio 4. Her debut short story collection Modern Times is published by The Stinging Fly and Weidenfeld & Nicolson. Her debut novel Breakdown was published by Weidenfeld & Nicholson in 2024 and quickly became an Irish Bestseller.
